The DAILY EXAMEN –  is at the core of Ignatian Spirituality and an ideal way of praying for busy people. For St. Ignatius it was an indispensable prayer that takes our everyday lives seriously.

The Examen is not an examination of conscience but rather a review of our day, looking for the loving presence God in our lives. It consists of 5 steps.

1 Give thanks for the good things that have happened in our day. Everything, every day is a gift from God. Let’s be positive.

2 Ask for light to see things through God’s eyes. God often sees things that we don’t.

3 Go back over our day, watching it like a film, looking for the moments that speak to us especially of God’s presence and action in our lives. What do they mean?

4 Take responsibility for any failures during the day in order to grow in freedom.

5 Look forward to tomorrow. What shall I do now? Where do I need God’s help? Prayer leads to action.

Praying the Examen regularly  can help us gradually to become more sensitive to the presence of God in our lives all the time. It is a simple life-changing prayer
